ANNISTON — Inside Kosmic Bloom, calm colors, soft lighting and quiet intention set the tone for a space its owners say is meant for healing, not just shopping.
Kosmic Bloom, located at 310 Greenbrier Dear Road, is owned by Whitney Mosley and Kierra Wright. The two met a year ago, through shared passions of holistic healing and community building.
“We really started with just wanting to bring women together,” Wright said.
Before opening the store, Wright taught yoga classes in the summer at local parks in Anniston. Mosley attended these yoga classes, and the two clicked instantly.
“I would do a different park every week, just trying to get out there. Whitney came to every class, we built a strong bond and from there, we knew we had to hone into that energy,” Wright said.
In September, they hosted their first event together, a Full Womb Ceremony including yoga, sound healing and holistic vendors. After a great turnout, they realized a space for womanhood was needed in the community, according to Wright.
“It was magical, we had about 25 ladies come. We pulled the event together in 4 days, including marketing and getting vendors,” Mosley said.
Within weeks, they spotted a sign in a window, called the property owner and were approved the next day, according to Mosley. Soon after, Kosmic Bloom opened for business, earning its name from Wright’s and Mosley’s personal interests in the cosmos, planets, femininity and flowers.
While the space offers crystals, incense and oracle readings, Mosley and Wright are careful about how they describe their work.
“We call it a wellness center, sometimes the word ‘spirituality’ scares people away before they even walk through the door,” said Mosley.
Kosmic Bloom offers a range of services from yoga and sound bowl healing to workshops, movie nights and Parent and Me yoga sessions, according to Wright. They also have a small shelf in the store that serves as a library. Customers can purchase a library card for $5 and check out self-help books, receiving a percentage off items on the third Monday of the month. Library card users can come in and use the space to study, according to Mosley.
The store also sells jewelry, natural herbs, vitamins, and wellness oils from vendors. The shop’s most popular item is “Universe Please,” a line of herbal teas and pre-rolls created in-house to support stress relief, energy and sleep, without cannabis, according to Mosley.
“We didn’t want to just focus on ourselves, we wanted to bring out the local ladies, and gentlemen that have their own products to market,” said Mosley.
Wright and Mosley explained they do their research on the vendors they purchase from, informing customers what they are putting into their bodies.
“We don’t want to be like, ‘Here just take this,’ we want to let them know how it works, how long it takes for an effect and so on,” said Mosley.
Education is important, as last Saturday they hosted a Blooming Brew, including local herbists coming in and talking about the herbs in each tea. Participants were able to take home their own tea bags they blended themselves, according to Mosley.
“We’re doing things like this because we’re not just trying to sell stuff to our community, we want to educate them so they can go home and do it for themselves and pass it down, eventually we can all start living past 100,” said Mosley.
Wright and Mosley hope to expand in space and staff, as Wright expressed a need for male presence in the store to offer self-care services for men. This week, they collected blanket donations from customers, in exchange for a rose quartz crystal, with plans to give back to the homeless in Zinn Park, according to Mosley.
Kosmic Bloom is more than just a store that sells products, it is a safe space to free yourself and connect with others, according to Wright.
“Joy and happiness is OK and we don’t have to keep operating in survival mode,” said Mosley
Events are announced through Facebook, TikTok and Kosmic Bloon’s website, where a monthly calendar is posted.
